Micro Worlds 2012 — 36th Micro Cup

Dear class colleagues,

it is with pleasure to update you on the progress of the preparations for the next World Championships.

The event will return to Lake Traunsee where we held a very successful and interesting Micro Cup in 1997 — the lake provides very good sailing conditions, thermical winds between force 3 and 5 as if the weather is beautiful well as gradient wind up to force 6 if the weather is bad.

This time the Union-Yachtclub Traunsee will be the host of championship, one of Austria’s leading clubs. Founded in 1888 the club’s promises are on a wonderful spot directly in the city of Gmunden. Sailing in the city will be possible at least for the finish of the long distance race. The opening ceremony will take place at the town square right in the heart of the beautiful town with its buildings from the 19th century.

Race organisation and race management is on very high level as the club hosts the annual tour stop of the RC44 World Tour and plays a major role in Austria’s biggest race week, the Traunsee-Woche where 350 boats in 10 classes are racing all over the lake. In addition, the club hosted major events such as 470 European Champioship 2009 and the Beneteau Platu 25 World Championship 2011 very succesful.

The event will start on Monday, 20 August with registration and equipement control which will continue on 21 August. On the evening of that day the opening ceremony will take place in the middle of the town. Racing starts on Wednesday 22 August and will continue until Saturday 25 August when the closing ceremony will take place. There will be several social events, at least on after the opening ceremiony, one harbour party during the week and a sailors dinner after prize giving.

Gmunden is a lovely town, part of the historic Salzkammergut, with lots of cafes, bars and restaurants. The region around the lake provides a huge variety of diffent types of accommodation, ranging from five star hotels to private guestrooms («Fremdenzimmer») with breakfast and aparments. We are sure you’ll find the perfect solution. In addition, there will be a camping place at the «Toscana Parkplatz», a three minutes walk from the club, with electricty, water and toilets. This camping will be exclusively for the competitors of the championship.

We just started with an event website http://microworlds2012.wordpress.com and a designated email adress microworlds2012@gmail.com. You also can contact me via skype: hczasny or on my mobile: +43 676 8844 1247.

For those participating in the Micr’Eau d’Heure: we will be there from Friday and carry some information material (flyers, leaflets etc) about the event and the venue with us. Please come to our car to see us or let’s have a chat during the evenings!

We would be grateful if you could distribute information about the event to your class collegues!

Look forward to welcoming you at Lake Traunsee,
